Chargers Interview Lovie Smith

Posted Jan 11, 2013

The Chargers held an interview at Chargers Park today for their head coaching vacancy, bringing in former Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith.

In nine-years heading up the Bears, Smith recorded 81 wins and 63 losses.  He had five winning seasons and made the playoffs three times.  Most notably, he guided Chicago to Super Bowl XLI in 2007, where the Bears fell 29-17 to the Indianapolis Colts. In addition, he captured three NFC North titles during his tenure and appeared in two NFC Championship Games.

Smith’s first year was a disappointment as the team finished with a 5-11 record. The following year in 2005, however, he masterminded a sharp turnaround as the Bears finished 11-5.  As a result, he was voted the Associated Press NFL Coach of the Year. Smith’s best season came during the franchise’s Super Bowl season when he led the team to an NFC best 13-3 record.

The Bears parted ways with Smith following the end of the 2012 season despite finishing with a 10-6 record.
