Chargers Close Practice to All but Season Ticket Holders

Posted Jul 31, 2013

Over 1,000 season ticket holders were invited to watch the Chargers practice on Wednesday.

Over 1,000 season ticket holders made it out to Chargers Park on Wednesday for a special training camp practice only open to them.  Numerous prizes were awarded throughout the two hour session and to top it off, when practice ended, the entire team made its way to the sideline to sign autographs for those in attendance.  The event is one of many benefits for season ticket holders, a group of people head coach Mike McCoy says along with the rest of the fans play an important role in the team’s success.

“We have a phenomenal home schedule this year,” he said. “You can’t ask for a better schedule with the opponents and the way it’s laid out.  You take care of everything early in the year, (and) we’ve got a great schedule at the end of the year, so it’s a great opportunity for our fans to jump on board and get going.  We obviously have to win football games.  That’s what it’s all about. They want to see a winner so that’s what we’re working toward right now.  But it’s great – the energy and excitement that’s out here every day.  We’ve had a great turnout whether it’s just the season ticket holders or the fans.  Whatever it’s been, every day it’s been great out here.  We’re very thankful for that.”

In fact, for some of the fans in attendance, McCoy is a reason they are season ticket holders.

“There are a lot of great changes the team has made like hiring Mike McCoy,” said 23-year old Christiano Valencia.  “That’s one of the reasons I bought season tickets for the first time.”

Twenty-eight year old John Arnold and his father Richard go to every game together and say the Chargers have stepped their game up this year, giving them more benefits than ever before.

“It’s been great this year,” said John Arnold. “They’ve contacted us on the phone just to make sure everything is going well.  They’ve given us a ton of new gifts.  And opportunities like this to come out to practice make it worthwhile.”

Quin Holmes agrees with Arnold.  He’s been a season ticket holder since 1975 and has only missed three games over that span.  While watching practice with his son, he says it’s been a long time since he’s been this excited for a season.

“We’re all fired up and I think all the fans are too because there are more people here than in the past,” he said. “Getting the chance to bring my son along with me is awesome.  The last few years the team has really stepped it up with the perks.  This year I got a chance to tour the facility with 18 people and we met (quarterbacks coach) Frank Reich and got to go to the locker room.  Things like that are so cool.”

Another season ticket holder enjoying himself on a sunny Wednesday afternoon was 33-year old Adrian Moreno, who relished the chance to watch the Bolts with fellow fans.

“This is beautiful,” he said. “This is a lot of fun right here getting the opportunity to spend the day with fellow season ticket holders who are passionate about the team.  It’s not something you get to do every day.  So it’s cool to come out here and hang out with everybody.  I like the autograph session and getting the chance to meet one-on-one with the players.”

Clearly, it’s never been better to be a season ticket holder than it is right now.  Click here for more information on how to become one.
