Chargers - Raiders Total Recap

Posted Dec 22, 2013

All the articles, videos, highlights and exclusive access from the Chargers 26-13 victory.

Everything went right for the San Diego Chargers around the league on Sunday, and most importantly, they took care of business in their own right with a 26-13 win over the rival Oakland Raiders.  Below you will find all the articles, videos, highlights and behind the scenes access from the impressive win.

First up, check out the complete game highlights from the victory.

A grinding, no-holds barred rushing attack played a major role for the Bolts.  Ryan Mathews led the way, pounding his way for 99 yards and one touchdown.  In the process, he reached 1,111 on the year to date, setting a new career-high for yards in a season.  Complementing Mathews was the dynamic running of Danny Woodhead, who carried the ball eight times for 52 yards and chipped in three catches for 16 yards.  Read how the Bolts ran past the Oakland Raiders , then watch Mathews spin and power his way into the end zone and his explosive 34 yard gain.

Arguably the top play on the day was Eric Weddle’s tremendous interception in the second quarter.  In a play that has to be seen to be believed, the defensive captain athletically deflected the ball to himself, juggling it as he hit the ground.  Read about the top notch interception here, then watch it below and hear what Weddle had to say about it.

After a subpar first half, the Chargers came out clicking on all cylinders in the third quarter.    Check out why the team said the adjustments made at halftime combined with proper execution secured the victory for the home team.

Overall, the defense played an excellent game, holding an explosive offense known for churning out big chunk plays to just 265 total yards.  Read how a confident Bolts defense neutralized the Raiders offense, then check out the final play of the game for the Raiders as their fourth down desperation pass came up empty.

Not to be overlooked was the superb play by the special teams.  Save for a muffed punt by Keenan Allen, the unit’s success was integral to the team’s victory. Nick Novak went 4-for-4 on the day, and Seyi Ajirotutu and Darrell Stuckey combined to force a fumble that Ladarius Green recovered.

For more on the big victory, check out what Head Coach Mike McCoy, Philip Rivers, Keenan Allen and Vincent Brown had to say following the game.

Finally, McCoy stressed at the end of his press conference the need for a huge home crowd advantage next Sunday in what could turn out to be a win-and-in game to enter the playoffs.  Make sure you are there in person to root on the Chargers!
