Charger Girls: A look back at the 2012 squad - Part 1

Posted Jul 10, 2013

With a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the 2013 Charger Girls calendar coming soon, let's first look back to last year's shoot from the beaches of Southern California.

Beautiful, talented and driven are just a few words used to describe the Charger Girls.

The lovely ladies you see shaking their gold pom-poms on the Qualcomm Stadium sideline on game day were not offered the opportunity on a silver platter.

There was a grueling audition process that began with 450 girls performing a preliminary dance routine in front of a panel of Chargers executives.

“These women come in through those doors in the morning and I’m trying to get a feel for who has showed up the day of to also get a grasp on what my veterans have to compete with,” Lisa Simmons, Director of the San Diego Charger Girls, said.

“It’s really competitive,” Vice President of Marketing Partnerships Dennis O’Leary said. “The girls are learning routines on the fly, they’re out there trying to compete for a job.”

Many of these girls have dreamed of becoming a Charger Girl since they were young. On the first day of auditions, there are two cuts, with the remaining girls moving on to the finals.

Check in tomorrow as we look back at the 2012-2013 Charger Girls audition process.

Now, you can stay in touch with the team anytime, anywhere, on your mobile device with the official app of the San Diego Chargers.
