When naming players who are among the most versatile in the league, 
Now, nearly two months later, head coach Norv Turner expects big things of his newest running back.
“Ronnie’s got a veteran presence, and I don’t think there’s anything we can throw at him that he can’t handle,” he said. “He’s an outstanding receiver and a very elusive ball carrier. He’s really a good player. He’s a complete player. He runs, he catches and he makes big plays. We’re going to move him around and make things happen with him.”
As Turner said, Brown is a duel threat out of the backfield that can beat you in a multitude of ways. Over his seven year career, including six with the Miami Dolphins before a one-year stint with the Philadelphia Eagles last season, Brown has averaged 4.2 yards per carry for 4,951 rushing yards and 37 rushing touchdowns. In the passing game, he has caught 184 balls for an 8.1 average and a pair of scores. Equally impressive, he has also thrown for two touchdowns , a strong indication of his true versatility.
Now entering his ninth season in the league, Brown is thrilled to join the Chargers and looks forward to making a positive contribution to the team every Sunday.
“It feels great to be here,” he said. “It’s a good fit for me as I am familiar with the offense having been with Cam Cameron in Miami. He and Norv have really good offensive minds, so I’m looking forward to getting out there and hopefully winning a lot of football games.”
One Charger in particular who is pleased to have Brown on board is quarterback
“Ronnie brings a lot of experience to the table,” said Rivers. “He’s an explosive guy, and someone who has a great love of football and a great understanding of the game. He’s a guy that when you throw a check down to him, he can do some real exciting things with the ball. He’s going to be a great addition. He has a strong presence in the locker room as well, and I think he’s going to help us win a lot of games this season.”
Winning, in fact, was a major factor for Brown when deciding where he should sign this offseason. All it took was one glance at the roster and he knew it was a perfect fit.
“One of the main reasons I came here is the talent on this team,” he said. “You have one of the best quarterbacks in the game back there and a lot of guys who can make big plays. Everyone has the expectations of winning games and going far, and I’m excited to be a part of it. We have a lot of talent on this football team. But with talent, you still have to put in the work. With a lot of talent comes a lot of responsibility, and the guys here are really working hard to the best of their ability and putting the necessary effort into it.”
While he has already had a productive career, one that includes a Pro Bowl appearance in 2008, Brown says it’s never too late to learn and improve his game.
“As an older guy, having been around for a while, hopefully I can help Ryan (Mathews) get better. But also I am looking forward to having him teach me a couple new things. The game is always evolving and it’s never too late to add new things, I’ll always keep chopping wood and try to become a better all-around player.”
That tireless work ethic, along with a natural ability to make big plays, is a major reason why the Chargers expect a tremendous season out of Brown come September.
