Brad Sorensen Blog: "Learning From Rivers is a Blessing"

Posted Dec 4, 2013

This week's blog entry comes courtesy of Brad Sorensen.

My rookie year has been an awesome experience.   I mean, to sit in the same room as Philip Rivers and Charlie Whitehurst and pick their brain about how they approach the game and practice, that all has been very helpful to me.  It will help further my career.  I try to learn something new every day and that’s easy with these guys.  They’ve had successful careers and are awesome.

Learning from Philip Rivers is a blessing.  It’s a huge blessing.  The way he approaches each and every day – he’s the first one here and the last one to leave.  He’s very thorough with his work and very dedicated to knowing the game plan and getting everyone on the same page.  I can just sit back and watch how he operates, and he’s awesome.

Charlie has been a big help too.  We stand next to each other while Philip is doing his thing on the field and we bounce ideas off each other.  He always has something smart to say or explains to me how this guy was open for this reason, and he’s been a big help.

It’s also been awesome learning from Frank Reich.  He’s super thorough in everything he does.  He always makes sure everything is understood clearly and he’s very thorough with his game planning. He’s an awesome quarterbacks coach.  Ken Whisenhunt has been great too.  He makes sure everyone is on the same page with the routes and protections.  And of course Coach McCoy has been huge for me as well.

Off the field this has been a big year for me too because I had my first baby, a daughter.  It’s been a lot of work, but I have to give a lot of credit and thanks to my wife.  I get to come to work and have a blast while I’m here.  She’s the one it’s been harder on because she stays home and does the majority of the work.  That allows me to play a game I love.  But it’s been great.  Each day I get to come home and I can’t wait to be with my little girl. I can’t ask for a better start to how my life in San Diego has been.

It’s been exciting for me.  I didn’t know exactly what to expect coming in, and the coaching staff did a great job giving me an opportunity, whether that was in games in the preseason or practices in the regular season.  It’s been fun to be out here, so thanks to everyone for the support.  Come on out and support us against the Giants this week.
