Bolts' Offseason Program Starts Tuesday

Posted Apr 20, 2014

The San Diego Chargers offseason program begins on Tuesday.

The NFL Draft is only a handful of weeks away…but that’s not the next big event when it comes to Chargers football.

The Bolts return to Chargers Park on Tuesday to kick off their offseason program.  According to the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement, each team is allowed a voluntary nine-week offseason program, which is divided into three phases.  The three phases are broken down as follows:

Phase I:

The first two weeks of the program comprise Phase I. These two weeks are limited to strength and conditioning as well as physical rehabilitation..

Phase II:

The second phase lasts three weeks and consists of on-field workouts that include individual player instruction and drills, in addition to team practice conducted on a “separates” basis.  No live contact or team offense vs. team defense drills are permitted.

Phase III:

The final four weeks comprise Phase Three.  Teams may conduct a total of 10 days of organized team practice activity, often referred to as “OTAs”.  No live contact is permitted, but 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills are permitted. The Bolts sessions will last from May 27-29, June 2-4 and June 9-12.

Mini Camp:

The Chargers will hold a three day mandatory minicamp from June 17-19.  After that, the team will separate for the ensuing month before returning in late July for training camp.  We will post info on training camp and open dates for fans to attend as soon as they are announced.
