Bolts Make Bevy of Moves

Posted Jul 23, 2012

While Friday usually signifies the end of the work week, the Chargers got down to business, making a series of transactions as they head into training camp.

The team announced they agreed to terms on one-year contracts with defensive tackle Aubrayo Franklin and running back Jackie Battle, while also releasing Kris Dielman from the Reserved/Retired list.

A 10-year veteran, Franklin is a 6-foot-1, 317-pound behemoth who has enjoyed a solid career. He has recorded 161 tackles and 4.0 sacks over the years with the Baltimore Ravens, San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints. His best statistical season came in 2008 when he posted 46 tackles and a sack.

Battle, meanwhile, spent the previous five seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. The 6-2, 238-pound runner and special teams standout enjoyed his best season in 2011, rushing for 597 yards and two touchdowns on 149 carries. He also proved adept in the passing game, chipping in with nine receptions for 68 yards. Overall, Battle has rushed for 715 yards and four touchdowns on 190 carries during his NFL career.

A four-time Pro Bowler, the 31-year old Dielman announced his retirement earlier this offseason after sustaining a concussion vs. the New York Jets that ended his season.  Despite being released from the Reserved/Retired list, all indications are that he expects to remain on the sidelines.
