Bolts Add Notre Dame Guard Chris Watt in 3rd Round

Posted May 9, 2014

With the 89th pick, the Chargers selected Notre Dame guard Chris Watt.

With the 89th pick of the NFL Draft, the Bolts went on the offensive.

After spending the first two selections addressing the defense, the San Diego Chargers added Notre Dame guard Chris Watt.

We'll have more on Watt shortly, but here is a profile on the new offensive lineman.

Watt started 27 of the 50 games he played in at Notre Dame, compiling a string of 24 consecutive starts…In 12 of his starting assignments, the Irish accounted for at least 200 yards on the ground.

2013 SEASON
Watt earned Football Bowl Subdivision All-Independent first-team honors…Started 11 games at left offensive guard…Returned to start the final three regular season games…Was part of an offensive line that allowed just eight sacks and ranked tied for second in the FBS in fewest sacks allowed...No team in the nation has allowed fewer sacks and attempted more passes than Notre Dame (eight sacks on 382 pass attempts) this season...In 2012 Notre Dame had allowed twice as many sacks (16) at this juncture on 30 fewer passing attempts (352)...Helped the Irish run the ball for a season-high 235 yards while not allowing a sack on 28 passing attempts in the victory over Brigham Young…Michigan State entered the game vs. Notre Dame (Sept. 21) ranked 14th in the FBS in sacks – averaging three per game, but the Irish did not allow a single sack in 34 pass attempts vs. the Spartans...Helped the offense amass 5,276 yards, an average of 405.85 yards per game.
