Bolt to the Q For a Good Cause

Posted Jul 9, 2012

Thousands are set to pour down Murphy Canyon Road for the second annual Bolt to the Q 5k on Saturday, July 21. A joint venture of the San Diego Chargers, Ryan Mathews and Kaiser Permanente, the race benefits the Trish & Ryan Mathews’ Door of Hope Chest, a non-profit charity that assists homeless mothers and children to start a new life.

The 5K run begins at Chargers Park and winds its way down the road into Qualcomm Stadium. Concluding at the 50-yard line runners can watch themselves on Bolt Vision as they finish the challenging, yet rewarding race.  Following the 5K, a 1K Fun Run for children will be held at the stadium as well as a post-race tailgate party.  All participants receive a Nike Dry-Fit Bolt to the Q t-shirt, while the top three finishers in each age division and all children participating in the 1K Fun Run receive a medal.

The plight of homeless mothers and children is very dear to Mathews’ heart, and is a cause he works tirelessly to improve.  Thus, he is proud to sponsor an event that is not only enjoyable, but helps raise funds for the charitable foundation.

“I know first-hand what these moms endure because my mother and I were homeless for a short time when I was little,” said Mathews. “I wouldn’t have the life I have now if it wasn’t for my mom getting a helping hand and then doing everything she could to support me, even working three jobs. So I encourage all levels of runners to sign-up for the Bolt to the Q because not only will it be a good time, but we can also help families get the support they need.”

Only 3,000 entries will be accepted and limited space remains. Those who sign up by July 15th can enter for$40, while children 12 and under can sign up for the 1K Fun Run for just $15.
