After two injury-ridden seasons with the St. Louis Rams, Alexander was released and signed by the San Diego Chargers on Oct. 18, 2012.
And what a signing it was.
In his last six games with the Chargers, Alexander has caught 33 passes for 555 yards and five touchdowns, after not recording a catch against the Cleveland Browns. In all six of those games, Alexander has been San Diego’s leading pass-catcher and has totaled 60 or more receiving yards. He has broken the 100-yard plateau twice this season, with one coming against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he put up 134 yards, and the other coming last week against the Cincinnati Bengals, when he recorded 102 receiving yards.
Today against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Alexander had another fine game, hauling in seven catches for 88 yards and two touchdowns. The two scores tie a season-high for him.
Alexander’s first touchdown of the day came in the second quarter of Sunday’s game. Facing a third-and-one at the Pittsburgh 39-yard line, Alexander pulled a double move on the Steelers’ cornerback to get behind the secondary, made the back-shoulder catch, kept his balance and raced into the end zone for a 39-yard score. The touchdown gave the Chargers a 10-0 and momentum, and was also Alexander’s longest reception of the day.
