“We’ve Dug Ourselves in this Hole….We’ll Dig Ourselves Out”

Posted Nov 18, 2013

The San Diego Chargers have dug themselves a hole. They are now working hard to dig their way out.

Head Coach Mike McCoy said it best in the aftermath of the team’s disappointing 20-16 loss to the Miami Dolphins. After dropping their third straight game and watching their record fall to 4-6, the Chargers have dug themselves into a big hole.

That being said, he was the first to say the team will dig themselves out.

“We’ve dug ourselves in this hole,” he said.  “As a football team, we’ll dig ourselves out. We have to find a way.  Each man has to look at himself and figure a way out to play a little better and do their job better.  And it starts with me as the head coach.  So that’s what we’re going to do as a football team.”

Despite being dejected in the locker room, the team rallied behind their head coach’s leadership, confident in their abilities going forward.  To a man, they said they are a long way away from throwing in the towel with six games remaining.

“We’ve got to win,” said Eric Weddle. “Next week we’ve got to win.  We have no other choice.  Everyone still believes.  There is no one on our schedule that we feel we can’t beat if we go out, play right and execute.”

It doesn’t matter if you’re a captain like Weddle or a young, up-and-comer like Ladarius Green, no one in the Chargers’ locker room is ready to quit.

“This team, we’re all brothers in this locker room,” said Green.  “We know there’s a lot more to work on, (but) it’s still a long season….We’ve just got to make those one or two plays now, so we’re going to watch the film and correct everything we did.”

Obviously, there is a big difference between vocalizing confidence and acknowledging the areas the team needs to improve upon and then executing it.  But to their credit, the Bolts seem determined to not let their words ring hollow.

“We’ll go back to work,” said Danny Woodhead.  “We’ll get back in the routine and get ready for the Chiefs. I mean, we’ve got a huge game coming up and that’s all you can really do…We’re going to keep going to work and work hard like we do.  Obviously we have to do everything we can to get it turned around.  If there is a group of guys that can do that, I think we’re capable of that.”

Now, you can stay in touch with the team anytime, anywhere, on your mobile device with the official app of the San Diego Chargers.
