“Bolt to the Q” 5K Registration Opens Today

Posted Apr 10, 2014

Join running back Ryan Mathews and the Chargers at the fourth annual Kaiser Permanente Bolt to the Q 5K & Kids 1K Fun Run on Sunday, July 20.

Entries are limited and available on Chargers5k.com. The early entry fee is $35 and $15 for children 12 and younger. Online registration is open until July 17.

Proceeds benefit Trish & Ryan Mathews’ Door of Hope Chest, a non-profit charitable foundation overseen by the Salvation Army. The event will help provide homeless moms and children much-needed resources such as housewares, bedding, towels and cookware as they transition to new homes. The foundation also provides services such as job counseling and parenting classes.

“I know first-hand what these moms endure because my mother and I were homeless for a short time when I was little,” Mathews said. “I wouldn’t have the life I have now if it wasn’t for my mom getting a helping hand and then doing everything she could to support me, even working three jobs. So I encourage all levels of runners to sign-up for the Bolt to the Q because it’s not just fun, it also helps families get the support they need.”

The Bolt to the Q starts in the Qualcomm Stadium parking lot and finishes inside the stadium on the 50-yard line.  The 1K Fun Run for children will also be held at the stadium.  All participants will receive a Bolt to the Q T-Shirt and a Finishers medal.

For more information on the Bolt to the Q 5K or to register visit Chargers5k.com.
