Corey Liuget Hosts His Second Shop with a Charger Event

After taking over the reins from Antonio Gates a year ago, Corey Liuget hosted his second annual Shop with a Charger event on Tuesday.

Liuget treated 25 kids and teens from the American Heart Association to dinner and a truly unforgettable night of shopping.

"It means a lot," Liuget said.  "I was an inner-city kid, and I came from a background and a family (where) we had things but we didn't really have much.  I wanted to definitely always make sure every kid is able to enjoy the holidays and have something."

Working with the American Heart Association was of the utmost importance to Liuget as it is a cause that hits close to home.  His son, Corey Jr. was born with a heart defect.  While he is now a happy and healthy kid, Liuget knows a lot of other families aren't as fortunate so he's doing his part to help them.

"Just the fact that I've worked with the American Heart Association for the last three to four years, for them to come and have those families here, (is cool).  Sometimes, it can be rough times and they can't quite afford to have the Christmas they want.  I'm just here making sure that I can reach at least one kid today and (make them) feel good today… Having my son go through what he went through with his heart defects as an infant, it was a very emotional time for my family and me.  So I'm glad that I'm here and that these kids are here so I can put a smile on their face now."

"It's absolutely incredible and it's a once in a lifetime opportunity for the kids," added Kyle McAuley, Vice President Youth Market, American Heart Association.  "They loved getting to feel special for a day and forget about everything else and run through the store with professional football players and an incredible group of individuals who volunteered to be here.  Corey inspires all the kids, and it's just a great opportunity and we're grateful."

Brandon Mebane was on hand to help Liuget with his event and admitted it's not surprising to see his teammate do what he did to help so many.

"He's an amazing guy," Mebane said of Liuget.  "He has a great heart and he's always willing to give.  That's the type of person you want on your team and you want to be friends with."
