Military Hero: Staff Sergeant William Means

Staff Sergeant William Means joined the Marine Corps in 2001. During his 13 years of service to the United States Marine Corps, Staff Sergeant Means has deployed 6 times, missing the births of two of his five children.

He deployed 3 times to Iraq in his first enlistment during the Operation Iraqi Freedom campaign. He then deployed twice to Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom.

His most recent deployment took him to Kuwait as part of a Special MAGTAF. Staff Sergeant Means is currently stationed at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California and is on active duty. H

is awards include: National Defense Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medals (5), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal (2), Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal (5), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Afghan Campaign Medal (2), Marine Corps Recruiting and Combat Action ribbons, Sea Service Deployment ribbon (6), NATO medal - ISAF Afghanistan.
