The Los Angeles Chargers boast some of the most iconic uniforms in all of professional sports.
On Thursday, the team revealed its home jersey schedule for the 2017 season, highlighted by the return of the iconic powder blues Week 7 versus Denver and a Color Rush game on alumni day Week 13 against Cleveland.
“I personally believe we have the best uniforms in the National Football League, and I know that most of our fans feel the same way,” said President of Business Operations A.G. Spanos. “The fact that they legitimately debate which uniform is the best and hold such strong opinions on the subject is both unique and special. I’m not sure that really happens anywhere else.”
Perhaps the biggest news is that for the first time in history, the Bolts will don their powder blue jerseys on the road. It comes on the biggest stage when they visit Dallas to face the Cowboys on Thanksgiving.
“That’s straight fire!” Jahleel Addae said enthusiastically. “That’s fresh! That’s everything we can ask for. Other than the Super Bowl, Thanksgiving is the biggest game there is. Powder blues against Dallas on Thanksgiving? It doesn’t get better than that!”
The Bolts will also continue the tradition of wearing white at home for the first month of the year. In an unusual twist, the Chargers won’t don the traditional navy jersey in the regular season until Nov. 19 against the Buffalo Bills.
Meanwhile, as previously alluded to, the team will bust out the all royal blue jersey for Color Rush in early December during a Sunday matinee with the Browns.
“The league changed its policy this year since some teams don’t play a traditional Thursday night game,” Spanos explained. “For instance, our only Thursday game is on Thanksgiving while the Cowboys play one a week later, too. With that in consideration, teams are now allowed to select a home game outside of Thursday night to wear their color rush uniform. Ours have historical undertones to it because of the royal, so we felt it was a strong way to tie into our alumni game.”
“Those color rush uniforms might be my favorite ones,” Tyrell Williams said after learning the news. “It’s close because I also love the powder blue. But to wear the color rush uniform on alumni day is special. It resembles the old-school uniform of Dan Fouts, so it means a lot to wear those.”
