Practice Report: Top Moments from Day Four of Camp

TOP PLAYS:

Antonio Gates set the edge on a hand off to Melvin Gordon, who burst through the open lane for a big gain.

Among several standout plays, Travis Benjamin notably caught a perfectly thrown deep ball from Philip Rivers in stride on his way to a 70-yard touchdown.

Keenan Allen also had several highlight reel moments, including a sick double move that led to a TD snare.

Joey Bosa used his leverage to stay low when working against the o-line.

Trovon Reed had a pair of interceptions, including one in the end zone.

Desmond King used his quickness to break up what looked like a surefire touchdown.

Kellen Clemens lobbed a perfect rainbow to rookie Andre Patton in the back of the end zone for the score.

Tyrell Williams used his big frame to shield the defender and pluck the ball for a TD.

Mitchell Paige used a nasty move to send the defensive back to the ground for a wide open touchdown catch.

Mike Bercovici fired an absolute bullet that Jamaal Jones reacted quickly to catch in the back of the end zone.

Adrian Phillips outmuscled his man to wrestle the ball free for an incompletion rather than a TD.

Branden Oliver took a long pass and turned up field for a big gain.

Trevor Williams didn't fall for a double move, staying stride for stride with his man to break up a pass in the end zone.

WHO IMPRESSED:

Ricky Henne's Take:Travis Benjamin continues to have a lights out training camp, stealing the show once again.  He showed off his complete skillset on Wednesday, highlighted by the 70-yard bomb for a touchdown.  He also caught several intermediate balls before turning them into big gains with his speed.  My favorite play by him today actually had nothing to do with his jets.  Benjamin ran a route just shy of the goal line in the red zone, stopped on a dime, caught the ball and then twirled into the end zone untouched.  Meanwhile, I also have to give a shout out to Trovon Reed, who had a pair of interceptions on the day.

Hayley Elwood's Take:I have to go with Ricky as I was really impressed with Travis Benjamin on Wednesday.  I know Ricky's mentioned him a couple times this week, but as each day of camp rolls on, he looks more and more comfortable.  His deep ball catches are becoming routine, and his speed basically makes him indefensible.  He had another one on Wednesday that elicited oohs and aahs from his teammates.  If he can keep this level of play up and stay healthy, defenders better watch out come the regular season.

ODDS AND ENDS:

Forrest Lamp was carted off the field and later diagnosed with a torn ACL.

Philip Rivers and Casey Hayward engaged in some good-natured ribbing as the intensity picked up on day four.

The Bolts had their first "move the chains" portion of training camp in which the offense attempted to march down the field.

The players receive their first off day of camp on Thursday before returning to action Friday at Jack Hammett Sports Complex.  Gates open at 9:00 a.m.

BOLTS QUOTEBOOK:

*"Fourth day of camp (was) definitely hump day.  Nice and hot with the pads on.  Some guys pulled through well (and) some guys struggled a little bit.  Overall, a productive day." – *Head Coach Anthony Lynn

*"Speed kills! Speed kills!" – *Quarterback Philip Rivers after wide receiver Travis Benjamin raced into the end zone.

*"We've got to encourage Forrest and let him know that injuries are a part of this game. We're definitely going to miss him, but we've got some good guys here still who are going to work and fight for a job.  They've been fighting all OTAs and mini camp to prove themselves worthy.  They are in a position to compete for a job, and we trust them.   But we're thinking of Forrest, and we're encouraging him to stay on course." – *Offensive Tackle Russell Okung
