As we near the start of training camp on July 30, we’ll preview each position for the San Diego Chargers. We continue with a breakdown of the cornerbacks. The Bolts currently have 10 cornerbacks on their roster: Jason Verrett, Brandon Flowers, Patrick Robinson, Craig Mager, Steve Williams, Chris Davis, Richard Crawford, Greg Ducre, Lowell Rose and Manuel Asprilla.
Davis – Primarily used as a returner on special teams as a rookie, Davis hopes to carve out a more significant role at corner in 2015. The former Iron Bowl hero appeared in 12 games with one start, registering 12 total tackles with one pass defensed.
Ducre – Undrafted out of the University of Washington, Ducre immediately parlayed an impressive preseason in 2014 into a spot on the practice squad. Soon after, the Washington Redskins signed him to their active roster, but fortunately, he found his way back to the Bolts and ended the season on San Diego’s 53-man roster.
Rose – A victim of a numbers crunch during his stint last year at Chargers training camp, Rose spent the entire season with the Miami Dolphins. He saw the first game action of his career, and re-signed with San Diego on June 1.
Asprilla – The Boston College product joined the Chargers after going undrafted in May. He appeared in 46 career games with 201 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 27 passes defensed and four interceptions over four seasons. Read
