We’ll reveal our top 10 things to watch for at training camp each day leading up to the first practice on July 30.
Which Rookies Will Take the Leap?
The Chargers enter training camp with 25 rookies on the roster, headlined by their five-member draft class.
Each season’s rookie class is different, but there are always certain first-year players who adjust quicker than others. While Rookie Watch will be at the forefront of Charger Camp, first-round draft choice Melvin Gordon will be the center of attention.
The Bolts have high hopes for the dynamic 6-1, 215-pound running back. While expectations should always be tempered for rookies, it’s clear the Chargers expect MGIII to contribute from day one after they traded up to secure the explosive playmaker. Watching how Gordon’s record-breaking college career translates to the pro game will be at the forefront of every Chargers fan’s mind.
Finally, the Bolts have a well-documented tradition of detecting undrafted gems. This year, 20 undrafted free agents will state their case to join the ranks of Antonio Gates, Malcom Floyd, Jahleel Addae, Branden Oliver and other former standout undrafted players. Figuring out which ones emerge to join that exclusive club has become an annual tradition, and a staple both in training camp and the preseason.
