Antonio Gates turns 35 years old today, and the all-time great has no intentions of slowing down.
In fact, entering his 13th year, number 85 is motivated to add another impressive feat to his surefire Hall of Fame resume.
Reaching 100 touchdowns would resonate deeply for Gates, but as he told NFL Network, it’s more a representation of a collective effort.
Gates is not just hungry for number 100. Should he duplicate last year’s 12 TD performance, he would tie Gonzalez as the most prolific scoring TE in history.
It’s only natural that as he gets older, he faces more questions about when he plans to hang up his cleats. Although he is destined for Canton, Gates says he will keep playing as long as he feels good and is productive.
“It’s so hard to say, and I’ve heard these questions over and over and over. It’s just all about how I feel. How my body feels. I’m a firm believer if you feel good, you play good. If I can continue to feel the way I feel right now, who knows how long I’ll play. But at the same time, I want to retire. I don’t want the game to retire me.”
