Mailbag: First Impressions of Jason Verrett
Q: Hey Rick! What are your very first impressions of Jason Verrett?- Ryan Davis
Q: How important is this week’s game in San Francisco? – Andrew King
A: The Chargers have the motto that “Everything Matters,” and that includes preseason games. Following the disappointing performance last week in Seattle, the Chargers are eager to show the strides they’ve made in correcting their mistakes. What I’m most interested in seeing is how the run defense performs. San Diego gave up 243 yards and five touchdowns on the ground to the Seahawks, and the Niners possess one of the most potent rushing attacks between Colin Kaepernick, Frank Gore, LaMichael James and Carlos Hyde among others. It should be another big test for the Bolts.
Q: I'm excited for the increased noise level at home games this year. How important is it for Chargers fans to Rock the Q this year? Can we challenge other loud stadiums? – Travis Blake
A: I don’t see why we can’t. I’ve been to a lot of stadiums over the years, and the way Qualcomm was rocking in the season finale win over the Kansas City Chiefs to get to the playoffs rivals any other game atmosphere. McCoy, Rivers and others have reiterated how that’s the way it needs to be every game because it truly does give the Bolts significant advantage.
Q: Is there a reason Ryan Mathews didn’t play last game? Is he injured? – Derrick Hillison
A: McCoy has a plan for each and every player, and for Mathews it was getting a break last game. He is fine and has been practicing this entire week. McCoy also said he wanted to get a look at Donald Brown with the first team offense, so there is no need to be worried about Mathews’ health.
