Skydivers Surprise Chargers for Family Night
One of the most popular in-game entertainment aspects at Qualcomm Stadium are skydivers from Frog X Shadow Works who occasionally parachute onto the 50-yard line during pregame festivities.
“It was neat to have the guys jump in on the field,” Head Coach Mike McCoy said. “They come into our stadium for four games this year. It was exciting. It’s family night here, so a bunch of the families are here – the players’ wives, kids and significant others –so it’s a great opportunity for us to say thank you to all the families that support us coaches and players all year long. It’s a great thing that (President) Dean (Spanos) does for the organization (to) really just say thank you to everybody. This was a great way to start it off.”
Many of the players headed to the sideline as the skydivers approached their landing, holding their children close to enjoy the experience. A number of them said they were inspired to one day follow in their footsteps, but of course long after their playing days are over.
“Oh man, I felt like a little kid out here watching them,” laughed Brandon Flowers. “It was real cool. One actually flew down from the sky and kicked the ball off the tee. I mean, that’s just cool! One day it’s now on my bucket list to jump off a plane, but that’s after my career is over!”
Donald Butler echoed Flowers same sentiments.
“I wish they would have asked me to jump,” he joked. “I would have gotten up there and jumped out! But no, it was great. That’s pretty cool having those guys jump out and support us. And family night is always a good thing to have the kids running around.”
