Weddle Highlight's Practice with Pair of Picks
Eric Weddle made sure they didn’t go home disappointed.
The popular Pro Bowl safety had a pair of picks that elicited cheers from the Chargers faithful. His first came in the red zone when he made a one-handed snare at his own five-yard line before weaving his way up field for a 95-yard pick six. Then, during the final team portion of the day, he surveyed the scene and stepped up to grab another interception.
“He did a nice job back there,” he said. “(He’s) a crafty veteran and made some nice plays for us. He’s one of the leaders of the football team and has been a captain a number of years. He plays the game the way it’s supposed to be played. He shows up every day, works extremely hard, he’s a student of the game, he’s very smart and doesn’t make too many mistakes out there. We give him some freedom back there from time to time, and you saw why we do that today.”
Still, Weddle cautioned not to get too excited about his interceptions. As great as it was for the defense to create those turnovers, the offense had their fair share of success as well.
“It’s huge, especially against Philip (Rivers) because I rarely get many chances because he’s so good,” he explained. “Even if I do have great coverage he’s smart and rarely throws it, so that’s great credit to him. Today I was able to get my hands on a couple balls. But he’ll get me back, so you’ve got to stay humble about it. You can’t make two interceptions out into some big deal.”
Don't forget, Saturday marks the team's annual FanFest at Quacomm Stadium. It's always a highlight of the summer and is an event you won't want to miss. Click here for more information.
