After a long 12 hour day at the office mastering his craft, the right tackle still wasn’t satisfied. He stayed on his own after walk through to work on his technique, footwork and more. It’s all part of a never ending drive to be the absolute best.
“Every day I wake up, it’s all about football and how I can get better today,” he said out of breath. “I’ve set goals and there are things I want to improve on. Pass protection is one of them. I want to move my feet quicker and get out of jams. The main thing is to give Philip (Rivers) more time. “
“This is very different,” he said. “Now that it’s my second year in the league, I actually get it. Being a rookie was awesome, but now I really understand everything. Things are slowing down and I’m even more confident. I understand the concepts better. I’m just trying to find myself and learn more from the coaches, and things are going well.”
Even though he was a 22-year old rookie, Fluker was never shy to speak his mind. Now as a 23-year old with a year’s experience under his belt, he plans on being an even bigger leader in 2014.
“That’s just who I am,” he explained. “Every day you have to be a leader when things are going right and when things are going bad. I think the best way to lead is by example, but I’m also a vocal guy.
While Fluker is vocal on the field, the fans lining Chargers Park are equally vocal in their support of number 76, constantly cheering him on and calling out his name. Fluker wants them to know he hears each and every one of them and appreciates their support.
“I hear them all on every snap,” he said. “To know they are behind me means a lot. Their support for an offensive lineman; I didn’t know it was possible. They’ve been that way since my first day, and they are wild out there. That’s why I love going over to them after practice, sign some autographs, take pictures and talk with them. I see their support, and they help move me forward.” Read
