What Impressed McCoy Most on Day One?
It didn’t take long for him to find his answer.
“I think defensively overall the secondary got their hands on a number of balls,” he said. “I think Jason Verrett made some tough decisions on the quarterbacks there driving on balls. Having Brandon (Flowers) out there also, Richard Marshall, Shareece (Wright); I mean, they are all off to a good start. “
The cornerbacks and safeties definitely made their mark during the morning’s session. Whether it was Jahleel Addae batting down a ball at the line of scrimmage or Brandon Ghee going over the top to knock a surefire catch to the ground, it was a positive first step for the retooled secondary.
All eyes were on Flowers in particular, as it was his first day with the team after signing in late July. The initial reviews were all positive, which isn’t much of a surprise considering his resume.
“It’s great to have him,” McCoy said. “Having played against him the last five years, four years when I was in Denver and the last year here, but to get one of the best corners in the league on your football team is outstanding. It just creates more competition on the roster and that’s going to be a good thing.”
Still, the head coach cautioned not to get too far ahead of ourselves as it was only the first day in a long process.
“It’s day one,” he said. “We have to start with a positive day and then have another positive day tomorrow.”
