Verrett Grateful for First True Taste of NFL
But for as elated as he is to be a Bolt, the offseason was a frustrating one for the former TCU star as he was limited by a shoulder injury preventing him from practicing. Verrett long targeted being ready for the start of training camp, and sure enough there he was in his number 22 jersey participating fully on the first day of camp on Thursday.
“Oh man, I just feel so blessed,” he said with a long sigh and a broad smile. “It was great to get that feel back. I haven’t covered anyone for six months, so it was good to be back out there. I was very grateful.”
“(Brandon) Flowers, Shareece (Wright), Richard Marshall and everyone else, we’re all in it together,” he said. “We’re feeding off each other and together we want to lock things down.”
“They are good players,” he said. “They have bigger bodies, but I covered big bodies in college. But these guys are really good athletes. They are a little more experienced.”
Verrett saw extensive time rotating with a number of units in his first true NFL practice, and the nearly 3,000 fans in attendance cheered loudly each time he took the field. The 5-10, 178-pounder is known for his aggressive demeanor, but it’s his humble nature that drives him to be the best.
“I’m very excited to be out there,” he said. “I just want to keep getting better and focus on being consistent. I’m very humble and I’m all about balling out. I’m trying to do my thing, but I’m a cool laid back guy. I just want to be the best athlete I can be.”
