Rivers: "I Just Think We Know What to Expect Now"

Rivers entered Chargers Park for his 11th training camp and enjoyed taking to the field after five weeks off.
“It’s the first day out there, the first day live,” Rivers said. “It does take these first few days to get back in sync, but I thought all in all it was good. I thought the tempo was the best thing we did. We really practiced fast. We had some mistakes but those will get ironed out as we progress.”
Entering the second year in Head Coach Mike McCoy’s system, Rivers cited comfort as a difference from year one to year two. He believes that comfort resonates with not only him, but his returning teammates as well.
Rivers said the goal is to win more than nine games this season and compete for a championship. He enters training camp with an acute attention to detail; a skill he believes can take his game, and the whole team, to the next level.
“You just want to keep fine tuning the details and all the little things,” he said. “Every little thing matters and it’s not relaxing on anything. I think our whole offense, our whole team has that mindset.”
Refining his skills and not resting on his laurels proved beneficial for the quarterback last season. In 2013, he had a career-year, leading the NFL by completing 69.5 percent of his passes and throwing 32
Dawning a second decade in his own professional career, Rivers was candid about being one of the seasoned veterans on the team. He explained his age has given him a new appreciation for the offseason and the work he puts into making sure he’s game-ready.
“Over the last few years you realize you’re not going to do this forever and I never have taken it for granted,” he said. “You enjoy every element. You enjoy the locker room, enjoy the practice field, enjoy the meetings, you just appreciate what we get to do. We’re a bunch of young men that get to be on a team playing football so I think it’s just really appreciating that and then fighting like crazy to try to win a championship.” Read
