Day One of Rookie Minicamp Just the First Step
There were a number of goals the Chargers set for themselves before they kicked off this weekend’s rookie minicamp. Following the team’s initial practice on the field, it seems the Bolts are on the right pathway toward accomplishing them. But while it was a positive first step, the rookies still have a long road ahead to get where they need to be for the 2014 season.
McCoy spoke to the rookies prior to the start of minicamp, telling them what he was looking for from the newest Chargers.
“I talked to them about mastering the things that require no talent,” he explained. “That’s knowing what to do and how to do it. Just number one, line up and be able to play. Come off the ball and do it the right way. You’re going to make some mistakes, but you’ve got to learn
The rookies took McCoy’s words to heart. While the coaches threw a ton at them, many felt they had a successful first day.
“I thought it went really well,” said guard Chris Watt. “Obviously there is going to be a little bit of miscommunication here and there, but I think the O-Line as a whole did a good job today communicating with one another. We were able to get the job done for the most part.”
Many of the rookies have been around the team since the draft finished. They relished the opportunity to finally put the helmet on and perform on the field.
“We met and have had a lot of meetings, so it was definitely good to go out there and finally run through it,” said Jerry Attaochu. “I thought it went pretty well. For our first time out there I thought everybody did a great job.” Read
