Shareece Wright: "I was Hoping For" Jason Verrett

Shareece Wright was glued to his television set and watched as Commissioner Roger Goodell took the podium ready to announce the 25th overall selection.
“Oh I was so happy,” Wright recalled. “I was thinking that was one of the guys we were going to get and I was hoping for. I was excited that we went for a corner. I was happy for him and for the team. He’s a great player. He makes a lot of great plays out there and it’s an honor to have him be a part of this team. I hope he’s ready to come in and work hard and make us better.”
Last week Wright said how with a year of starting experience under his belt he was ready to embrace a
“I can’t wait to talk to him and tell him if he needs anything he can always call me,” he said. “I will help him with his transition. I’m here to support him and help him along the way. I want to make sure he’s ready to work hard because we’re going to have a big year.”
It wasn’t that long ago that Wright was the young rookie corner eager to make an impact in San Diego. Having gone through the ropes himself, he knows exactly what he needs to do in order to help Verrett adjust.
“There is a lot more to the game at this level,” he said. “It’s a lot faster and there is more learning you need
Wright has heard the concerns some have that Verrett’s height could limit him at the next level. After watching Verrett in college and knowing what it takes to succeed at the next level he thinks those worries are unfounded.
“It doesn’t matter at all,” Wright said. “He is a great athlete. He makes a ton of plays at 5-9. He’s going to be just fine. He’s going to be a very good player.”
