Chargers Wait Tables in their Time Off
The San Diego Chargers give back to the San Diego community and sincerely enjoy their time spent doing it. On Friday, the select group of Chargers participated in the 14th Annual STAR/PAL Celebrity Waiter Luncheon, one of their favorite community events. It gives the players a chance to interact in a way unlike any other.D.J. Fluker, Kwame Geathers, David Johnson, Kendall Reyes, Willie Smith, Manti Te’o and Tourek Williams.
This year marked Clary’s third time as a celebrity waiter, and he explained why this is an event he always looks forward to attending.
“It’s just a lot of fun,” he said. “It’s for a great cause and it’s a unique atmosphere. So we’re all joking around, having a good time and helping out those who need our help.”
Every cent earned by the celebrity waiters goes to STAR/PAL, an organization dedicated to assisting law enforcement officers and community volunteers by providing over 10,000 youth services each year. Their mission is to “empower underserved youth to build a safer and more prosperous community by engaging with law enforcement and collaborative partners,” such as the Chargers.
While he is very active in the community, this was Ajirotutu’s first time at this particular event. It didn’t take long for him to figure out how special the celebrity luncheon is.
“This is a very cool event because it helps kids,” he said. “I think anything that helps kids in order to create a brighter future is very important. I was blessed to be in a good situation as a young kid, so if I can help out in any way possible I’ll do my part.”
Just like they are each year, the Bolts were among the most enthusiastic celebrities in attendance. Whether that entailed taking selfies with donors or personalizing plates with their signatures, there was no end to the creative measures the Chargers took which included Ajirotutu auctioning off an interview with Chargers.com.
