Chargers Preseason Schedule Announced
It’s not often that teams square off in the preseason against teams they will face in the regular season. At most, there may be one game that overlaps.
However, this year, the preseason slate will have a uniquely regular season flavor to it as the Bolts face three teams they’ll play when the games matter.
After opening preseason play at home against the Dallas Cowboys, the Chargers then play three NFC West teams they will also face in the regular season. The Bolts will travel to the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers before returning home to host the Arizona Cardinals. Exact dates have yet to be announced save for the 49ers game, which will be shown to a national audience airing on FOX Sports on Sunday, Aug. 24 at 1:00pm.
San Diego kicks off the preseason against Tony Romo and the Cowboys, who return to Qualcomm Stadium a year after falling to the Chargers last September. In that game, Philip Rivers beat Dallas with a 401-yard, three-touchdown performance to lead the Bolts to a 31-20 victory.
The Chargers head north to face the defending Super Bowl Champion Seahawks in Week 2. It marks the second straight year the teams will meet in the preseason, as the two kicked off their exhibition slate last year in a 31-10 Seahawk win at Qualcomm Stadium. The Super Bowl Champs will travel to San Diego in the regular season for what will surely be a hot ticket in America’s Finest City.
In another rare twist, the Bolts will visit San Francisco not once but twice in 2014. We already knew the Chargers would play in the brand-new Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara in the regular season, but they also will head up the coast in the preseason as well. Again, this is the only date known with kickoff scheduled for 1:00pm on Sunday, Aug. 24.
Finally, the Chargers return home to host Carson Palmer and the Cardinals to close out the exhibition season. The final preseason game is always a tense and important one, with players fighting hard to earn a roster spot before the final cut down day.
The preseason scheduled only adds to what will be an exciting season for the Bolts, particularly at Qualcomm Stadium. Head Coach Mike McCoy spoke about the tremendous support the team received in 2013, and the only way to guarantee your seat right now for 2014 is by becoming a valued Season Ticket Member.
