Name: Bradley Roby
School: Ohio State
Weight: 194 pounds
The name of the game when it comes to Bradley Roby is speed.
In a loaded defensive back class, the Ohio State product is known as one of the fastest. At the NFL Scouting Combine he ran a 4.39 40-yard dash, which was just .02 off the pace set by Justin Gilbert. More importantly, Roby plays even faster than that once the pads go on, which makes him an extremely intriguing prospect.
Over three seasons at Ohio State, the corner recorded 179 tackles, 36 passes defensed, eight interceptions and 7.5 tackles for loss. He broke onto the scene as a freshman and tied for the team-high with three picks. Roby really hit his stride as a sophomore in 2012, posting 63 tackles, 17 passes defensed and two interceptions. As a result he was a Second Team All-American and First Team All-Big 10 selection, as well as a semifinalist for the Thorpe Award given to the top defensive back in the country. Last year, Roby set a career high 69 tackles with 13 passes broken up and three interceptions.
At 5-11, 194-pounds, the Buckeye has a prototypical build for a corner. Along with his world class speed he plays bigger than his size, always battling strong for the ball. A quick twitch athlete with an explosive initial burst, Roby also likes to mix it up as an aggressive, tenacious tackler. He has all the tools to cover slot receivers out of the nickel, but he can also line up outside against taller weapons.
Roby’s critics point toward his game against Wisconsin when he struggled against Jared Abbrederis. They say that performance was indicative of an up and down junior campaign. However, Roby alleviated most concerns with a strong showing at the Combine elevating him once again into the leaders of the cornerback pack.
