The Chargers never gave up even when things seemed bleakest.
That goes not only for the season, but for Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs as well.
Fittingly enough, Philip Rivers is now nominated for the GMC Never Say Never Moment of the Week.
The quarterback’s “overtime performance” is what is technically nominated as he guided his team meticulously down the field to set up Nick Novak’s eventual game winning field goal. But really, what Rivers did from the fourth quarter on deserves to be recognized. Down by 10 points in the final quarter, he rallied his team for the tie and then marched them down the field in overtime.
“We’re down 10, and we knew we needed to get a touchdown rather quickly, and cut it to three,” he said. “Once it went to the fourth quarter, time was going to get away from us. Then we had another drive. I was sick, we all were sick that we didn’t a touchdown there with four minutes left in the game because that about beat us. Obviously they missed a field goal, but that was huge. We knew we needed a touchdown there, and we didn’t. But, find a way to win.”
Rivers finished the game with three touchdown passes and he ends the regular season with 32, the second-highest single-season total of his career.
Then, watch what he had to say following the game below.
