Philip Rivers has garnered high praise and a number of accolades over the course of his standout 2013 campaign, and you can now add the Week 12 FedEx Air Player of the Week award to his burgeoning catalog.
Last week, Rivers completed 27 of 39 passes for 392 yards and three touchdowns for a 123.7 passer rating. He became just the third quarterback in NFL history with four games of at least 390 yards in a single season, tying Joe Montana and Dan Marino. With just 1:24 remaining in the game, he also led the Bolts down the field for a game-winning touchdown strike to Seyi Ajirotutu.
While Rivers appreciates any type of honor, he is adamant that none of them would be possible without the rest of his teammates.
“Like I’ve always said, I think it’s a credit to the team because our team played well,” he said. “It’s just like the years we have had lots of players in the Pro Bowl, it means our team played really well. I’m always appreciative of these types of awards, but to me it’s a reflection that it was a heck of a team effort.”
The Chargers quarterback beat out the New England Patriots’ Tom Brady and the Tennessee Titans’ Ryan Fitzpatrick to win the award.
