It was his only catch and it went for nine yards, but for Vincent Brown, it was a reception 12 months and one intense year of rehab in the making.
The Chargers wide receiver broke his ankle in the second preseason game of 2012, but number 86 was back on the field in the second preseason game of 2013 and he couldn’t be happier.
“Oh it really felt great,” he said with a big grin. “To be out there in a real game actually moving around plying against another team, it was great. It was the second game last year that I went down in the preseason, so being back out there it was good. I just had to get back out there and play, and the Chicago Bears are a tough team. So to be out there against their first string, it felt good to get out there and get a feel for a real game again. It felt good to get back into the swing of things and get used to the speed of things.”
One person who was pleased to see the talented wideout back on the field was his quarterback, Philip Rivers.
“It was good to have him back,” he said. “What I hate is that I had him open on the sack fumble that I had. I was too deep in my drop and I had him running for a touchdown. That would have been even nicer to get him going, but it’s great to have him out there. He’s going to keep getting better and he’ll be a real big part of it.” Read
