From now until the start of training camp, Jordan Beane and I will be previewing each position for the San Diego Chargers.
Today, we turn our focus toward the running back and fullback positions.
Leading the charge is Ryan Mathews, who head coach Mike McCoy recently praised, expecting big things out of the fourth year running back. Newcomer Danny Woodhead is one of the most versatile players in the entire NFL, while Ronnie Brown returns to provide veteran leadership. A trio of talented youngsters round out the running backs in Edwin Baker, Foswhitt Whittaker and Michael Hill.
Regarding the fullback position, there are two players currently on the depth chart – Le’Ron McClain and Chris Gronkowski. McClain is a former all-pro and pro bowler who does a little bit of everything, showing his ability to block, run the ball and catch out of the backfield last season in his first year with the Bolts. Gronkowski, meanwhile, is entering his fourth season out of the University of Arizona and spent last season with McCoy in Denver.
Watch the above video for analysis on both positions.
