BLOG: Fluker "One of the best feelings ever"
Growing up, D.J. Fluker had a weary relationship with the word “home”. Raised in New Orleans, Fluker had slept in cars and escaped from the Big Easy as Katrina was barreling down on the city, leaving everything behind. Later, during his time at Alabama, a tornado destroyed his apartment. So it’s no surprise that one of the first things the big right tackle bought after signing his rookie contract was a house for his mom.
“She called me on the phone crying,” Fluker said, in a piece on Bleacher Report. “It’s probably like one of the best feelings ever.”
Shot at a local barbershop, Fluker also talked about his emotions after being drafted by the Chargers (“I cried a little bit, you know, before those cameras got to me. Had to hide it you know?” ), his expectations for 2013 and more.
As for the money changing him? Don’t bet on it. “You’re a millionaire now. But me, personally, I don’t see it like that. I still feel like regular D.J. Fluker, the kid that’s still going to work hard.”
