The Chargers have agreed to a contract with free agent rookie quarterback Mike Hermann from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), a Division III school in Troy, New York.
The 6-5, 250-pound Hermann was a two-time Liberty League Offensive Player of the Year and first-team all-conference quarterback. As a senior in 2012, he completed 178 of 296 (60.1%) for 2,366 yards with 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
In four seasons at RPI, the Hardeeville, S.C. native completed 619 of 1,078 passes (57.4%) for 7,177 yards with 57 touchdowns and 31 interceptions. He also rushed 435 times for 1,935 yards and 29 scores, including 15 rushing touchdowns as a junior in 2011.
