Exclusive Q&A with Keenan Allen
Shortly after being selected with the 76th overall selection in this year’s draft, Keenan Allen spoke with Chargers.com for a wide ranging interview. Here’s what he had to say:
Chargers.com: So first off, how does it feel to be a San Diego Charger?
Allen: It feels great! I’m definitely glad I’ll still be in California. I love it out there. I’m glad to call San Diego my home.
Chargers.com: What was the moment like when you got the phone call?
Allen: It was definitely special. I was just waiting for a place to be, and San Diego made the call and I’m ready to go.
Chargers.com: Right now a lot of fans are excited about you coming here, but are wondering about the health of your knee. How is it right now?
Allen: I feel good. I’d say Im 90%. I’m definitely active.
Chargers.com: So do you expect to work out at the rookie camp in a couple weeks?
Allen: I should be able to work out then.
Chargers.com: Many NFL Pundits are saying you are a first round talent but fell to the third. Is there any reason why you think that happened?
Allen: I really don’t have a reason. I don’t know why. But it is what it is.
Chargers.com: How much contact did you have with the Chargers during this draft process?
Allen: We had a little bit of contact. I saw them a few days before the draft so we were in contact.
Chargers.com: How about Philip Rivers? How excited are you to have him as your quarterback and catch passes from him?
Allen: Oh that feels great. He’s a great quarterback and a great leader. He definitely takes control of an offense, the game and the team so I’m glad to have him.
Chargers.com: Is there any wide receiver out there that you would compare your game to?
Allen: I would say Anquan Boldin and Calvin Johnson.
Chargers.com: What are the strengths to your game?
Allen: My strength, quickness and knowledge of the game.
Chargers.com: Conversely, what do you need to improve?
Allen: I want to improve my speed and be more consistent.
Chargers.com: Lastly, what do you want to tell all the Chargers fans out there?
Allen: I want them to know I’m definitely ready to come out there and compete with you guys. This is a great opportunity for me and I look forward to making the best of it.
