Prospect Profile: Justin Pugh
In order to familiarize fans with some of the top names in the 2013 NFL Draft, Chargers.com will be highlighting a different prospect each weekday leading up to the first day of the draft on April 25th.
We continue the series with a scouting report of Syracuse offensive lineman Justin Pugh.
Name: Justin Pugh
Weight: 307 LBS
Position: Offensive Lineman
Justin Pugh starred for three seasons as an offensive tackle at Syracuse. That being said, some believe he will be moved to guard in the NFL, and be a pretty good one at that.
The 6-foot-4, 307-pound Pugh started every game he played in at college, manning the left tackle position immediately as a red-shirt freshman. He was an All-Big East second team selection his first year, and the past two was named to the First Team All-Big East.
Despite Pugh’s success as a tackle in college, some scouts and pundits believe his skillset best suits him as a guard at the next level, particularly in a zone blocking scheme. He has light feet which gives him tremendous range and mobility. Pugh is an intelligent player, and once he engages the defender he is tough to shake. He also plays with an edge and nasty streak which is a useful demeanor for an offensive lineman.
Pugh will most likely have to improve his overall strength and bulk up to reach his full potential at the next level. But his raw skillset and cerebral approach to the game make him an intriguing prospect for the end of the first round or beginning of day two.
40-yard Dash: 5.14
