The Chargers make their season debut on Monday night, playing host to Arian Foster and the high-powered Houston Texans at Qualcomm Stadium in what will be the last game of Week 1. The Chargers have never lost against the Texans’ franchise, boasting a 4-0 record. San Diego opened last season with a Monday night victory and will look to do so again for the second straight year.
The Bolts hit the road for the first time in Week 2, travelling to the City of Brotherly Love for the first time since2005 to take on the Philadelphia Eagles. The Chargers lead the all-time series six games to four, and won the most recent meeting, 31-23, back in 2009.
San Diego is back on the road again in Week 3, this time to visit the Tennessee Titans. The Chargers beat the Titans 38-10 last year and lead the all-time series, 26-16-1.
Next up, the Dallas Cowboys come to town on September 29. Dallas leads the all-time series six games to three, although the last time they met was down in Texas and he Bolts came out on top, 20-17.
Week 5 presents the Chargers first match against an AFC West foe, this one on the road against the Oakland Raiders. San Diego has won the last three meetings against their bitter rivals, including a season sweep in 2012. Oakland leads the overall series though, 58-47-2.
The Chargers return home for a primetime Monday night game against the Indianapolis Colts on October 14. The game figures to be an emotional one for General Manager Tom Telesco, who will face off against his long-time former team for the first time since leaving to join the Bolts. It will also see Defensive Coordinator John Pagano battle it out against his brother Chuck, who is Indy’s head coach. San Diego leads the all-time series 17-10, and has won the last two times they have played. The most recent win at home was a 23-17 playoff victory in 2008.
The Chargers next head cross-country to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars in Week 7. The Bolts lead the all-time series 3-2, and have won the last two meetings, including a 38-14 road win in 2011.
Following a Week 8 bye, the Chargers are back on the road, heading cross-country again. This time they stop at the nation’s capital for the first time since 2005 to play the Washington Redskins. Washington won the first six meetings between these two teams, but San Diego has won the past three. The Redskins’ dynamic quarterback Robert Griffin III is questionable to start the season after injuring his leg this past post-season, but most likely back in time for this match.
Next up, the Bolts host their division rivals, the Denver Broncos. Denver leads the all-time series 57-48-1. Last season, the two teams met at Qualcomm Stadium with the visitors erasing a 24-0 Chargers lead at halftime to escape with a win. No doubt the Bolts will have that in mind as they seek revenge under the leadership of McCoy, who spent the last four seasons in Denver.
Week 11 finds the Chargers travelling to Florida for a date with the Miami Dolphins. It’s the team’s first visit to Miami since a 17-10 loss back in 2008. However, the Chargers have won the last two against the Fins to tie the all-time series record at 14-14.
The Bolts are back on the road for the second consecutive week, this time heading to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs. The Chargers took the lead in the all-time series, 53-52-1, with a pair of victories against their division foes in 2012.
San Diego hosts the Cincinnati Bengals for the second consecutive season in Week 12. Cincy got the better of the Bolts last year, 20-13, on its way to a second straight postseason appearance. The Chargers lead the all-time series 19-13.
December 8 figures to be a big game as Eli Manning and the New York Giants visit Qualcomm Stadium. This will mark the second visit since the draft day trade that sent Manning to New York and Philip Rivers to San Diego. Overall, the Chargers and Giants have each won five games against one another, with the Bolts winning the last two. San Diego also won the last time they played at Qualcomm Stadium, 45-23, back in 2005.
The Chargers end the season with three straight games against the AFC West, beginning with a Thursday night tilt in Denver against the Broncos. It is the last road game of the 2013 regular season for the Bolts, but will be the first time McCoy, returns to the city to face his former team as head coach of the Chargers.
Week 16 brings the Oakland Raiders to America’s Finest City. The last time the teams met in San Diego was the final week of last season with the Chargers prevailing 24-21.
Finally, the Chargers close out the regular season playing host to the Kansas City Chiefs. San Diego has won their last seven games on the final weekend of the season.
