One of the Chargers’ signature events in the community returns for a third straight year as the team announced the 2013 Kaiser Permanente Bolt to the Q, set to take place on July 21. Presented in conjunction with Ryan Matthews, proceeds will once again benefit the Trish & Ryan Mathews’ Door of Hope Chest, a non-profit charitable foundation overseen by the Salvation Army that helps provide homeless moms and children much-needed resources.
“I know first-hand what these moms endure because my mother and I were homeless for a short time when I was little,” Mathews said. “I wouldn’t have the life I have now if it wasn’t for my mom getting a helping hand and then doing everything she could to support me, even working three jobs. So I encourage all levels of runners to sign-up for the Bolt to the Q because not only will it be a good time, but we can also help families get the support they need.”
The Bolt to the Q consists of a 5k followed by a 1k fun run for children. The route for this year’s 5k differs from years past as it begins in the Qualcomm Stadium parking lot and finishes inside the stadium on the 50-yard line. Those participating will get to watch themselves on Bolt Vision as they enter the stadium and will also receive a medal and t-shirt upon crossing the finish line.
Last year, participants ranged in age from seven-years old to 82, coming from all over the country as far away as Alaska and New York.
Once again, the event is expected to sell out and registration is limited. The entry fee is $35 for adults and $15 for children 12 and younger if registered by July 16. The registration form can be found at http://chargers5k.com/.
