Path to the Draft: Part 2 - Pro Days
A pro day is pretty similar to what goes on at the NFL combine. However, instead of being a week long, it’s condensed into a single day.
For the past few weeks the Chargers have been attending pro days across the country. In fact, they attended nearly 100 in the month of March alone.
“We get a lot of work done at these pro days,” said Spanos. “They are very important for multiple reasons. For starters, it’s a chance for us to get hands on work with players not at the combine. So all the players not invited to the combine, we get a chance to run them through the similar tests that all the players at the combine did in terms of getting verified heights and weights, speeds, three-cone, short shuttle, broad jump and vertical jump. We get to see them do position drills as well. It’s a chance for us to get to talk to them also, so it’s a very important process.”
Overall, the pro day gives the scouts one last chance to fill in the gaps for each prospect.
Watch the one-on-one interview above to hear how pro days fit into the scouting process and why Spanos believes that pro days are one of the most important elements in preparing for the Draft.
