The San Diego Chargers announced their 2013 preseason schedule today with a four-game slate featuring all NFC opponents.
“This preseason is going to be a great test for our football team and it’s exciting for our fans,” said Chargers Head Coach Mike McCoy. “To be able to compete against two playoff teams at home will help us in our preparation for the season. It will also be good experience for us to play two outstanding teams on the road, including a game on national TV. Overall the preseason will be a good opportunity for us to get ready for the regular season.”
Chargers fans should be happy that they have the opportunity to see the first game of the McCoy era on their home turf when Russell Wilson leads the Seattle Seahawks into Qualcomm Stadium. The Chargers then hit the road the following week to face the Chicago Bears for a primetime affair on Thursday night August 15.
Following that game, the Bolts will visit the Arizona Cardinals. The game figures to have some extra emotion for Offensive Coordinator Ken Whisenhunt, who coached the Cardinals from 2007-2012 and guided the franchise to their lone Super Bowl appearance.
The Chargers will end the exhibition season back at Qualcomm against the reigning NFC champion San Francisco 49ers. This final match should prove to be a strong test of where the Chargers stack up against one of the league’s elite teams. It also serves as one final showcase for players on the bubble to prove they have what it takes to make the final roster.
The Chargers regular season schedule is set to be released in mid-April, however, we do know what teams the Bolts will face. San Diego will host the Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland Raiders, Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, Cincinnati Bengals, Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts at Qualcomm stadium. The Chargers will hit the road to take on the Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland Raiders, Washington Redskins, Philadelphia Eagles, Miami Dolphins, Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans.
