In order to familiarize fans with some of the top names in the 2013 NFL Draft, Chargers.com will be highlighting a different prospect each weekday leading up to the first day of the draft on April 25th.
We continue the series with a scouting report of Alabama running back Eddie Lacy.
Name: Eddie Lacy
Weight: 231 LBS
Position: Running Back
A hamstring injury prevented Eddie Lacy from working out at both the Scouting Combine and Alabama’s Pro Day.
But it won’t prevent him from being an early selection in the NFL Draft.
The last two years saw a pair of Alabama running backs selected in the first round with Mark Ingram in 2011 and Trent Richardson in 2012. Lacy makes a strong case to be the third straight. He garnered First Team All-SEC honors by running for 1,322 yards on 204 carries for an impressive 6.5 yards-per-carry average and 17 touchdowns.
One of Lacy’s top traits is his knack for coming through clutch in the biggest games. He ran for a career-high 181 rushing yards against Georgia in the SEC Championship Game, and then took home Offensive Player of the Game honors in the BCS title game against Notre Dame by rushing for 140 rushing yards.
Lacy is a powerful runner who plows through defenders. He keeps his legs churning and is difficult to bring down unless gang tackled. While not a burner, Lacy possesses good speed and has an exceptional burst when hitting the hole.
The biggest complaint about his game has been his penchant for being injured as he’s dealt with a number of foot and leg ailments over the years. But when on the field, he’s produced as well as any other runner in college football. As a result, Lacy has a very good chance to be the first running back selected in this year’s draft.
