In order to familiarize fans with some of the top names in the 2013 NFL Draft, Chargers.com will be highlighting a different prospect each weekday leading up to the first day of the draft on April 25th.
We continue the series with a scouting report of Alabama offensive tackle D.J. Fluker.
Name: D.J. Fluker
Weight: 339 LBS
Position: Offensive Tackle
When talking about offensive line prospects, the buzz this year has mainly been about the big three of Luke Joeckel, Eric Fisher and Lane Johnson.
Don’t sleep on D.J. Fluker.
For some reason, he’s been a forgotten man. However, Fluker is an excellent offensive tackle who flourished as a key cog in the Alabama Crimson Tide’s back-to-back national championship teams.
Described by ESPN as “a mountain of a man,” Fluker is an intimidating 6-foot-5, 339-pounds. He’s also as tough as they come. A mauler with a terrific motor, he is a powerful presence along the offensive line. Fluker predominantly stars as a run-blocker where he uses his massive 10-and-a-half inch hands to manhandle his opposition. He is a work in progress as a pass blocker since he lacks ideal foot quickness, but he still is able to use his size to his advantage to protect the quarterback.
After missing three games in 2010 due to a groin injury, Fluker has been a stalwart upfront for Alabama. He started all 27 games the past two seasons as the Crimson Tide were crowned BCS Champions.
Thus far, Fluker has played predominantly on the right side and that is where he is projected to suit up in the NFL. If he is able to fully develop his pass blocking skills to match his elite run blocking ability, Fluker will prove to be a major asset for whatever team drafts him.
40-yard Dash: 5.31
Bench Press: 21
