Offensive guard Chad Rinehart may be new to the San Diego Chargers organization, but he is quite familiar with what the offensive line is trying to accomplish.
That’s because Rinehart, who signed a one-year contract with the team on Wednesday, spent three seasons with the Bills under the tutelage of Joe D’Alessandris, the Bolts new offensive line coach who held the same position in Buffalo during Rinehart’s time there. That familiarity will go a long way toward beefing up an offensive line that appears to be in the middle of a transition.
The 27-year old guard is entering his sixth season in the NFL. Originally a third-round draft choice out of Northern Iowa by the Washington Redskins, the Chargers are Rinehart’s fourth team. He had a short stint on the New York Jets practice squad sandwiched between his first two years in Washington and the past three in Buffalo.
Overall, the 6-foot-5, 321-pound Rinehart has appeared in 31 games over five seasons while making 31 starts.
