Season ticket holder Steve Caves won the 2012 Season Ticket Holder grand prize for a trip to Super Bowl XLVII. Click here for photos from his trip and read below for a few snippets of his firsthand account of the big game.
“The trip in general ... Awesome!
We started out with a greeting from the City of New Orleans at the Airport ... free beads for everyone. Really nice gesture.
When we got to the hotel on Thursday evening, we found a reception for the guests of the Courtyard Marriot where Deon Sanders and Christian Ponder were speaking and taking questions from the crowd. This included free snacks and cocktails from the hotel. Great way to start the trip.
After picking up our Super Bowl tickets on Friday, we spent the morning at the riverfront park where several vendors had exhibits and several sports channels were broadcasting.
Friday afternoon we went to the NFL experience at the Convention Center and Saturday night we had a nice dinner in the French Quarter.
Sunday, we got to the Superdome as the gates were opened. I have to say the set up was awesome to handle that large of a crowd. The check-in and security were handled flawlessly. Prior to the game we participated in the exhibits, food, and drinks in the complex for fans attending the game. Again, very well done by the hosts.
Game time ... Great seats near mid-field. I thought the game was awesome. It could have gone either way. San Francisco battled to get back in it after falling way behind.
Half Time ... to tell you the truth ... not impressed with the show. Those of us in the stands could not hear or see much. The stage and sound system seemed to be set up for TV audiences and not those in the stadium. A portion of the show was totally blocked for half of the people in the stadium.
Big news item ... loss of power within the Superdome. It really was not a big deal for the fans at the game. There was enough light and it gave us the opportunity to get refreshments or take a break.
I also wanted to note that all of the local residents we met were excited to have visitors in the town. I felt very welcomed.
I wanted to again thank the Chargers for selecting me to have this experience. I know that Michael Terhall (my friend) also greatly appreciated the trip. This was a huge experience for both of us.
