Rivers' Sole Focus: "Get Win Number Four"
Philip Rivers has heard all the talk about the Chargers offense.
How they haven’t scored a touchdown in six quarters.
How they have failed to reach the end zone in two of their seven games this year.
How the passing game isn’t of the same caliber that fans are used to.
He’s heard it all, and Rivers is tired of it. He knows how talented the offense is and he knows they are capable of succeeding.
Now they just have to perform.
“There doesn’t need to be dramatic changes other than going out and winning,” he said. “That’s the dramatic change. Winning is definitely more dramatic than losing. As far as what it’s going to take to go and win, it’s not going to take anything dramatic. I wish that I didn’t have to keep saying it, but it’s very clear what’s cost us these last three wins. But we’re in the situation that we’re in and we have to dig ourselves out.”
Rivers acknowledged that the team is far from perfect, and that they will make their fair share of mistakes. The key to winning, however, is making enough plays to overcome those miscues.
“We’re human beings out there playing as hard as we can,” he said. “There’s no such thing as making all the plays. Everything gets magnified when you lose. When you win you just say ‘we won the game’, you don’t realize that all those plays had to be made to win the game.”
The Chargers quarterback is saying all the right things to keep his teammates motivated and responding in kind.
“Philip is a great leader,” said Malcom Floyd. “We are all behind him 100%. With him back there, there is no doubt in my mind that we will turn this thing around.”
The Chargers will get the chance to do so sooner than most week’s as they face the Kansas City Chiefs in just three days. The team is disappointed with where the record stands, but as Rivers said, they now have a chance to get back on the field and channel their frustrations in a positive way.
“There’s a lot of football left,” he said. “Nobody wants to be 3-4. We have a chance to win a game on Thursday. We have to do all we can to make sure that we get win number four.” Read
