Eddie Royal is officially listed as questionable for Sunday with a hamstring injury. Head coach Norv Turner is hopeful he will be able to play, but the team does have a pair of capable options in Richard Goodman and Danario Alexander should the need arise.
“We just have to go through the whole process of who we’ll put up if Eddie can’t go,” said Turner. “I’m hopeful he can, so we’ll just see where he’s at.”
The first candidate to replace Royal if called open could very well be Goodman, whose skill set most closely resembles that of the slot receiver. The 6-foot-0, 192-pound third-year pro has been outstanding all season long as the team’s kick returner, and is confident that he could do the job if needed to be this week’s third wideout.
“I’m totally comfortable playing that role,” he said. “That starts with my coaches and how they feel about me. I know they trust me. Most important though is the confidence I have in myself. I’ve been in this system for three years, so I’m well aware of each position on the field. So if it’s my turn for my number to be called upon, I’ll be ready to go out there and play football like I always do.”
The other option is Alexander, the newly signed receiver who joined the team on Monday. Despite only being here for five days, he too expressed confidence in being able to produce on the field this Sunday.
“I’ve studied the playbook hard, so I feel like I’ve got a good grasp of what’s been going on,” he said. “I’ve had a few reps in all different kinds of scenarios, so I’m confidence that I can step in and help the team get a W.”
